How to Hide Chrome Extensions (Unpin extensions)

The new Chrome browser lets you hide extensions on the toolbar for a clean look. Here’s how you can unhide or hide extensions in Chrome.

Apart from being pretty fast and integrating with Google services, one of the main advantages of the Chrome browser is its extensions ecosystem. If you go to the Chrome extensions web store, you can find almost any kind of extension. Some extensions are free and some offer premium services. The Chrome browser doesn’t limit you on how many extensions you can install. You are only limited by your system hardware like the RAM and processor. After all, the more extensions you have, the more RAM and processing power it consumes. In addition to that, almost every Chrome extension you install will add an icon to the toolbar.

Obviously, the more extensions you have, the more icons you will see on the toolbar. The many Chrome extension icons will not only shrink the address bar size but also makes the browser look cluttered and unkempt. Since you don’t need extension icons to appear front and center, you can unpin extensions from the toolbar. The unpinned extensions are moved to the overflow menu. For example, I use Pocket to save articles I want to read later. For the Pocket extension to work, there is no need for it to appear on the toolbar. So, I hide the Chrome extension to lessen the overall clutter.

In this quick guide, let me show how you can hide Chrome extensions or unpin extensions from the Chrome toolbar.
