The new Chrome browser lets you hide extensions on the toolbar for a clean look. Here’s how you can unhide or hide extensions in Chrome.
Apart from being pretty fast and integrating with Google services, one of the main advantages of the Chrome browser is its extensions ecosystem. If you go to the Chrome extensions web store, you can find almost any kind of extension. Some extensions are free and some offer premium services. The Chrome browser doesn’t limit you on how many extensions you can install. You are only limited by your system hardware like the RAM and processor. After all, the more extensions you have, the more RAM and processing power it consumes. In addition to that, almost every Chrome extension you install will add an icon to the toolbar.
Obviously, the more extensions you have, the more icons you will see on the toolbar. The many Chrome extension icons will not only shrink the address bar size but also makes the browser look cluttered and unkempt. Since you don’t need extension icons to appear front and center, you can unpin extensions from the toolbar. The unpinned extensions are moved to the overflow menu. For example, I use Pocket to save articles I want to read later. For the Pocket extension to work, there is no need for it to appear on the toolbar. So, I hide the Chrome extension to lessen the overall clutter.
In this quick guide, let me show how you can hide Chrome extensions or unpin extensions from the Chrome toolbar.
Steps to hide Chrome extensions
To hide Chrome extensions, follow the steps listed below.
- Open the Chrome browser.
- Right-click on the extension icon you want to hide.
- Select the “Unpin” option.
- The extension is hidden in the overflow extension menu.
1. First, open the Chrome browser in windows. You can do that by searching for “Chrome” in the Start menu or by double-clicking on the Chrome desktop shortcut.
2. After opening the Chrome browser, right-click on the Chrome extension icon you want to hide.
3. From the right-click option, select the “Unpin” option.
As soon as you select the unpin option from the Chrome extension icon right-click menu, the extension will be hidden in the overflow menu. You can see the hidden Chrome extension by clicking on the overflow icon on the toolbar. The overflow icon will look like a puzzle piece.
Even after hiding the extension, you can still click on the icon itself to access any provided by the extension.
To unhide the Chrome extension, click on the extensions overflow menu. Then click on the Pin icon next to the Chrome extension you want to unhide. As soon as you do that, the extension will be placed back on the toolbar.
