Fix: Windows Waking From Sleep on Its Own

Is your Windows computer waking from sleep on its own? Follow these simple steps to fix Windows waking from sleep automatically.

When leaving your computer for an extended period, it is a good habit to set it to Sleep. Windows itself is configured by default to go to sleep after some inactivity time. One of the best things about the Sleep mode is that you can resume the session almost instantly and starting working. Since Windows uses Hybrid Sleep, you won’t lose the active session even if there is a power loss. When in sleep mode, the computer or laptop consumes very little power. This means better battery backup time for laptops and less power wastage in the case of desktop computers.

As good as the Sleep mode is, there are often some hiccups regarding its functioning. Users for years have been complaining that Windows is waking from Sleep automatically. For example, if you set your Windows computer to sleep at night, it might wake itself in the middle of the night. When Windows wakes itself from sleep, it might be a considerable power wastage for desktops and for laptops; in the worst-case scenario, the battery might be fully depleted by the following day. Put simply, Windows waking from sleep automatically can be a pain in the back.

The good thing is, it is pretty easy to fix. Follow the steps below to fix Windows waking from sleep automatically problem

Why does Windows waking from sleep automatically?

Generally, it shouldn’t happen. However, Windows has a built-in feature called “Wake Timers” that lets Windows and other installed programs wake the system from sleep mode. For example, Windows uses the Wake Timers feature to run scheduled tasks, install Windows updates, reboot the system, etc. The same applies to third-party programs.

As long as the Wake Timers feature is enabled, any program can hook into this feature and wake Windows from its sleep. If the automatic sleep feature is enabled, Windows will go back to sleep automatically according to that system Sleep setting.

So, to fix the problem, you have to disable the Wake Timers feature in Windows manually.
