Finding your MAC (Media Access Control) address in Windows 11 is useful in several situations such as configuring the router to allow only specific devices, assigning static IP addresses, monitoring your network, identifying devices, and troubleshooting network issues. For instance, on my home network, I use the MAC addresses to assign static local IP addresses to all my devices. In Windows 11, you can find the MAC address of your network cards using the Settings app and Command Prompt. In this tutorial, I will show you both methods. Let’s get started.
Important note: MAC address is sometimes also called as Physical Address.
Steps to Find MAC Address in Windows 11 Using Settings
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to the Network & Internet tab.
- Click on the Advanced Network Settings option.
- Click on the Hardware and Connection Properties option.
- Under each network adapter, look for the Physical address (MAC) field. This is your MAC address.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First, open the Settings app in Windows 11 by pressing the Windows key + I shortcut. Alternatively, you can also click the gear icon or search for Settings in the Start menu.
In the Settings window, go to the Network & Internet tab, then click on Advanced Network Settings.
On this page, scroll down to the “More Settings” section and click on the Hardware and Connection Properties option.
This page lists all the hardware properties of your network cards (both physical and virtual). You can identify each network card using the “Name” field. For each adapter, locate the Physical address (MAC) field, which displays the MAC address specific to that network adapter. For instance, in the screenshot below, I’ve highlighted the MAC address of my Ethernet adapter.
Command to Find MAC Address in Windows 11
First, press the Start button, search for Command Prompt, and click Open.
In the Command Prompt window, type the ipconfig /all command and press Enter. This shows a list of all your network cards, both physical and virtual, and their hardware properties. You can find the MAC address of your network next to the Physical Address field.
Wrapping Up — Windows 11 MAC Address
As you can see, finding the MAC address of any network card in Windows 11 is easier than you think. You can use this MAC address to configure your router and for troubleshooting. On the other hand, if you don’t want to publicize your MAC address, you can make Windows 11 spoof the MAC address of your WiFi card by turning on the Random Hardware Address option.
