Microsoft recently added a spell checker in Notepad, and it is enabled by default. As you can guess, it is a pretty useful feature if you use your Notepad even occasionally. For example, if you use Notepad to take notes or quickly scribble down something, Notepad automatically highlights typos and spelling mistakes with red squiggly underlining. To correct them, all you have to do is right-click on the mistake and select the correct word from the “Spelling” menu.
While this feature is useful, there might be situations where you want to disable the Notepad spell checker. For example, you might be writing scripts or using a third-party spell checker or grammar tool. Whatever the reason, if you don’t need it, you can turn off the spell checker in Notepad.
In this article, I will show you how to disable the spell checker in Notepad and how to enable it when needed. Let’s get started.
Before You Start
- The spell-check feature is only available in Notepad version 11.2405.13.0 or higher. To find out your Notepad version, open the Start menu, search for Notepad, and click on App Settings. You will see the version number under the “Specifications” section. Make sure your Notepad is up to date to access this feature.
