Enable or Disable ‘Mouse Indicator’ on Pressing ‘Ctrl’ Key in Windows 11

Mouse Indicator allows you to easily identify where your mouse pointer (cursor) is with a single key press. Here’s how to enable or disable it.

Quick steps: Open Settings, go to the “Accessibility” > “Mouse pointer and touch” page, and turn ON or OFF the “Mouse indicator” toggle.

If you are using multiple displays or a large display, one of the most common issues we face is often missing or not being able to see where the mouse cursor or pointer is. This not only makes us frantically and vigorously move the mouse until we find it or, in the worst-case scenario, also causes unwanted clicks.

To fix this, Microsoft added a new accessibility feature called “Mouse Indicator”, which, when enabled, highlights the cursor when you press the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard. That way, you don’t have to guess where the mouse pointer is, simply press the “Ctrl” key, and Windows will highlight the cursor instantly. In this quick and easy guide, let me show you how to enable or disable the mouse indicator feature in the Windows 11 Settings app.

Note: You can also find the mouse cursor using ‘Additional mouse settings’ and PowerToys. Follow the linked guide to learn how.

Enable or Disable the ‘Mouse Indicator’ Feature in Windows 11 Using Settings

First step, launch Settings using the “Windows key + I” shortcut or search for “Settings” in the Start menu. After opening it, go to the “Accessibility” tab on the left sidebar. Next, click the “Mouse pointer and touch” option on the right panel of the Settings app.

On this page, find the “Mouse indicator” under “Mouse pointer” and do the following:

  • Turn ON the toggle to enable the “Mouse indicator” feature.
  • Turn OFF the toggle to disable the “Mouse indicator” feature.

When the mouse indicator feature is enabled, you can press the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard to highlight the mouse pointer on your screen. If you don’t want this happening, you can turn OFF the feature.
