The PrintNightmare vulnerability is pushing Microsoft buttons for the past couple of months. If you don’t know, the PrintNightmare is a remote code execution vulnerability where an attacker can exploit bugs in the Printer Spooler service to execute code remotely in your machine and gain access to the system with admin rights. As you can guess, PrintNightmare is a severe vulnerability.

Till now, Microsoft released two dedicated updates to fix the problem. But the vulnerability is still alive and kicking. So today, Microsoft released another update called the KB5005033 to deal with the Printernightmare vulnerability. In addition to fixing the bug, Microsoft is also making it so that you require admin rights to install printer drivers. After installing the KB5005033 update, this will be the default behavior in Windows 10.

As always, the update will be automatically installed on all supported Windows 10 versions. If you want to, you can manually trigger the update process by going to the “Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update” page and clicking on the “Check for updates” button. The update will be downloaded and installed if it is available for your system. If you cannot wait for the update or to install KB5005033 on an offline computer, use the update catalog to download the offline installer.
