After the recent patch Tuesday update, Microsoft released another out-of-the-band update called KB5004760 to fix a few issues with PDF rendering. Apparently, some users cannot open the PDF documents, or even if they can, the document is not rendering properly and displaying a grey background with nothing on it. Some users also cannot use IE 11 to open PDF documents. Apart from regular programs, some programs that use WebBrowser Control can also not open or render PDF documents. This general PDF problem is not widespread and is only faced by a handful of users with specific system configurations.
If you cannot open the PDF documents or if the PDF documents are not rendering properly after a recent update, installing the KB5004760 update will fix that problem. If you do not see any PDF issues, you don’t need to install this update manually. Let Windows 10 do its job, and you should be good.
