Today, Microsoft released another important update called Intel Microcode update for Windows 10 systems with Intel CPU. In case you don’t know, microcode updates are essential security updates pushed by Microsoft in collaboration with Intel to fix security vulnerabilities in Intel CPUs. When it comes to this specific update, that is KB4589212, it is aimed at preventing and fixing the “Platypus Attack“. In simple terms, the potential attackers can use the Platypus Attack to exploit Intel’s monitoring feature called the Running Average Power Limit interface (RAPL) to steal sensitive information directly from the memory. Though the attack itself is not a widespread issue, it still is a severe vulnerability. Considering the severity of the security threat, Microsoft released the update to fix it as soon as possible.
