How to Disable Word Suggestions (Text Predictions)

Since Word is so popular and essential to Microsoft, it constantly updates and adds new features to the application. One such new feature in Word is text prediction.

Text Prediction, often known as Word Suggestions, is a tool that anticipates your next words as you type. By clicking the tab key or ignoring the suggestion, you can accept or reject the text predictions on the fly. In principle, this should result in faster and more efficient typing.

However, as with any feature, it may or may not be helpful to all users. You can disable text prediction in Word if you don’t like it.

Note: The text predictions feature is only available in Office 365. If you are using Word 2019 or lower, you will not have access to this feature.

Disable Word Suggestions (Text Prediction)

Here is how to turn off text prediction (word suggestions) in Word.

  1. Open the Word application.
  2. Click the “File” option at the top.
  3. Press on “Options” on the sidebar.
  4. Go to the “Advanced” tab.
  5. Uncheck the “Show text predictions while typing” checkbox.
  6. Press the “Ok” button.
  7. With that, the text predictions feature is turned off.

First, open the Word application. You can click the Word icon pinned to the taskbar or search for “Word” in the Start menu.

After launching the Word application, click the “File” option on the top navigation bar. This action opens the File page in Word.

Here, find and click “Options” on the sidebar. It will open the Word Settings window.
