Learn how to quickly and easily disable Copilot in all Microsoft 365 apps such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
Copilot is now available to all Microsoft 365 users. While it is a pretty good feature to automate certain tasks like summarizing, drafting emails, creative writing, etc., not everyone wants or likes to use it. If you don’t want to use the Copilot feature in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote, you can disable it via “Options”.

In this quick and straightforward tutorial, I will show the steps to disable Copilot in all Microsoft 365 apps. Let’s get started.
Before You Start
- This guide focuses exclusively on disabling Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 11. These steps do not apply if you are using Microsoft 365 apps on iOS, Android, or via a web browser.
- Disabling Copilot doesn’t reduce or change your Microsoft 365 pricing.

Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First, open the specific Microsoft 365 application where you want to disable Copilot (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). To do this, open the Start menu, search for the application by name (like “Word”), and click “Open.”
Once the app opens, click the “Options” button at the bottom of the left sidebar.
Note: In Outlook, click the “Settings” (looks like a gear) icon in the top-right corner.

Now, go to the “Copilot” tab on the sidebar of the “Options” window and then uncheck the “Enable Copilot” checkbox. Click the “OK” button to save the change.

Finally, restart the Office app, and you are done. The Copilot in that specific Microsoft 365 app is disabled. For example, if you’ve followed the above steps in Word, Copilot is disabled in that app only. To disable it in other Microsoft 365 apps, follow the same steps in those apps.
You can also disable Copilot or completely remove Copilot by uninstalling it from Windows 11.
