Bing search results in the Start menu can be annoying at times. Follow these steps to disable Bing results in the Windows 10 Start menu.
In the latest versions of Windows 10, the Start menu shows Bing search results along with the local files, programs, and folders. Like many things, this might be helpful to some. However, the Start menu can sometimes prioritize the web results over the local results. In those cases, it really disrupts the workflow.
So, if you are not a fan of this unwanted behavior, follow the below steps to fully disable Bing search results in the Start Menu.
Note: We are going to use the Windows Registry Editor to make necessary configuration changes. So, back up the registry before making any changes.
Steps to Disable Bing Results in Start Menu
To fully disable bing search results in the Windows 10 Start menu, these are steps to you need to follow.
- Press “Windows Key + R” to open the “Run” dialog box.
- Type “regedit” in the blank field and press “Enter“.
- Now, copy the below path.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
- Paste it in the Registry Editor’s address bar and press “Enter“.
- Right-click on the “Search” folder and select the “New → Dword Value” option.
- Name the value as “AllowSearchToUseLocation“.
- Double-click on the value and set its Value Data as “0“.
- Right-click on the “Search” folder again and select the “New → Dword Value” option.
- Set the value name as “BingSearchEnabled“.
- Double-click on the value and set its Value Data as “0“.
- Close the registry editor.
- Reboot Windows.
After you reboot the Windows 10 system, the Start menu will no longer show any online or bing results when you search for something. If there are no search results of a search term, the Start menu will show the “No results” message rather than the Bing results.
To enable Bing search results in the Start menu:
If you want to revert back the changes you made and enable the Bing results, then delete both “AllowSearchToUseLocation” and “BingSearchEnabled” keys in the Registry Editor. After deleting, reboot the system. The Start menu should work normally with online or web results showing up for your queries.

As you can see, though not as easy as clicking a couple of buttons, the steps shown above are solid and reliable to turn off Bing search results in the Windows 10 Start menu.
Do keep in mind that after disabling the web results in the Start menu, you cannot use the Start menu search for quick calculations, conversions, and other such things. In my case, I almost always use the Start menu search for quick calculations and conversions. If you using the Start menu’s online integrations for these kinds of quick actions then don’t disable the online results.
